Linksys E2000 Router Review

One thing that I have learned about computers after several years is that it can be a frustrating experience to use one. With all the expectations of making your life less complicated, a computer, once in a while, seem to make your life that much harder. Just establishing a connection to the internet to check your email can be so frustrating once in a while. To help make the internet connection more pain-free is to use a router. Routers can offer more flexibility in your home or place of work. If you have more than one computer in your place, you will need a router to connect them all. With a router for your home-based business, computers can easily communicate with each other and access the internet.
Linksys E2000 Router
You just need one internet connection for all your computers if you decide to get a router for your home or place of work. As you would expect, there are many routers being sold today at all different price points with several features to select from. One particular router that is receiving many recommendations is the Linksys E2000. The Linksys E2000 is an inexpensive wireless router that is not hard at all to use and has better speed and range than the Netgear WNDR3700. The router employs wireless-n technology which has an extended range making it suited for larger or multy-level houses. The router features transfer speeds of up to 300 mbps, making it ideal for gaming consoles and other wireless gizmos. If you have an hdtv or blu-ray player that is Internet-enabled, you can hook those up to the router also.

Linksys E2000: Is It the Right Router for Your Networking System?

If you need to do fast file sharing and you have PCs with gigabit network ports, the router from Linksys comes with four gigabit ethernet ports. For wireless, you can select 2.4GHz or 5 GHz bands for less interference and faster file transfers. You can easily set up your Linksys E2000 router with its gratis Cisco Connect software. You will need to get your security set up, like a firewall, to protect your network from internet thieves and voyers. Visitors to your network can get on the internet from a locked down section of your network. This way people can be online without getting access to your other computers. Internet access can be limited or blocked by employing Cisco Connect’s Parental Controls.

The Linksys E2000 is the mid-range of the Linksys E series network routers. It is perfect for folks who need more than a bare bones router, but do not need everything that comes with the top of the line. To make sure that the Linksys E2000 is compatible with your networking system, the wireless card has to work with one of these signals: 802.11n, 802.11g, 802.11b, 802.3, or 802.3u. It features a pretty common setup with the following ports: Internet, Power, and 4 Ethernet ports. If you are in need of a router, is the Linksys E2000 the best one for you?

This router is a great value in light of the fact that it has everything that you could ask in a mid-range router. With the MIMO system, you have expanded and more efficient bandwidth without drawing a lot of power. Being able to work on several frequencies is another benefit. The only thing lacking is a USB port which is good to have but not critical. The Linksys E2000 is a top-notch router, and will give you a good networking system.

My worry with monitoring of this sort is mis-diagnosis of communications. In the past I've heard that things like backups and other file transfers have been mis-identified. Also I think many people sharing music online encrypt their connections so identifying illegal content surely will be a nightmare! I hope ISPs don't simply start blocking people because they “might” be doing something they don't approve of.

I like it. It would be like a highly portable internet appliance. I would want a wired ethernet port on it though. And a realistic price for consumer use.

To REALLY re-live the 90's you should cut your internet connection and everyday play tag, or hide and go seek until the street lights go on.

Yup. Lag is a horrible thing when it gets too bad. I have no cable access where I live so I have to play on a verizon wireless card on my computer and it's good enough, but I still have alot of lag related deaths so I have to get faster and faster to try to make up for the lag.

    13. tdljld says:

I've never been interested in gaming consoles, I mean, I've got a PC after all, why would I need a console? But then the Wii came along and for the first time in my life, I'm interested in a console. Then I saw the Wii Fit…then I got REALLY interested! Although I'm not sure I can choke down the $300+ it costs…maybe when the price comes down…

Sun has a variety of management processors in its systems (perhaps too many, but that should improve in the future).

The smaller UltraSPARC systems like the Sun Fire T1000 have ALOM, which doesn't have web-based access and has a dedicated network port.

The X4000 series “Galaxy” Opteron systems have ILOM, which adds the web-based KVM functions and also has a dedicated network port.

The X2000 series Opteron systems have the same functionality as the ILOM but share one of the main system's network ports.

I think it's kind of cool to download an ISO image to your laptop and then boot your server from it. :-)

      Great advice! So simple!

      So, its

Vonage Box —-> Laptop's Ethernet Port
Laptop ——> Wi-Fi Access Point (Starbuck's, Aiport, etc).

One question. In other fora, I have seen discussions that mention that you connect the Vonage Box to the Laptop's Ethernet Port using NOT a standard ethernet cable, but rather a special “bridge” cable. Any thoughts?
